Artist in Residence at One & Only Reethi Rah Maldives
Christopher Hogan says of his student, John Zimmermann “Nurturing a young artist’s talent and helping him to discover his own style is a rewarding experience. John is taking part in my daily artist in residence classes at One & Only Reethi Rah and he is producing work far beyond his years. John’s particular style is emerging and could be likened to “Andy Warhol meets Emily Kame Kngwarreye”.
Christopher Hogan also references his favourite painter, Chuck Close’s advice to young artists….“The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work…….All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you…….But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case.” end quote.
Christopher Hogan said “I think that John Zimmermann is a fine example of a young artist and rapidly his is finding his own style, he is listening to what I say and watching what I do and his time here working with a professional artist is working. Watch out for young John Zimmermann’s art work as I believe that he has a wonderful future in art.”
