The Progression of Christopher Hogan’s ‘George the Elephant’
King’s Cup Elephant Polo 2012
For the second year running, Tim Boda, Group Operations Manager, Minor Group has invited me to participate in this exciting event held in the seaside town of Hua Hin in Thailand.
This year I have been asked to create a painting for Anantara’s King’s Cup Elephant Polo 2012 Grand Auction Gala Dinner, to be held at Anantara Hua Hin Resort, this Saturday night.
I am painting my 2D ‘George the Elephant’ on the field for the next few days, here is my ‘work-in-progress’….more later.
The tournament was introduced to Thailand in 2001 by Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas and has grown to one of the biggest charitable events in Thailand and has raised almost US$500,000 for projects that better the lives of Thailand’s elephant population.
The painting that have designed and am painting at the elephant polo field is a 2D study of my 3D sculpture of “George the Elephant” that painted and donated for the celebrity Gala auction last year at the event. My ‘George the Elephant’ sculpture is in the private collection of ex-All Blacks great Mr Robin Brooke, Robin played representative rugby for Auckland, and made his All Blacks debut in 1992 against Ireland. Robin captained the Blues in the Super 12 of 2000 and 2001…..before retiring at the end of the 2001 season. Excerpt from http://anantaraelephantpolo.com/2011/p_playerbiog_pwc.php
This year I will be donating my 2D “Study of George” for the auction on Saturday night at the Grand Gala Auction and I join an impressive group; the major sponsors listed below; as part of this truly unique and rewarding event.
